Course Overview

Week 1: Introduction

We’ll start by talking about the reasons why couples fight about money and you’ll identify which fights you and your partner are having. We’ll also identify what is at stake if you don’t change and commit to a new way of talking about money with your partner.

Week 2: Money Scripts and Beliefs

In this session, you’ll learn about money scripts—the key beliefs and assumptions that each person brings into a relationship. You’ll gain insight into the formative experiences you and your partner had with money and how they affect the way you manage your finances today.

Week 3: Getting on the Same Page

In Session 3, you’ll learn about how to create a strong relationship and start working on creating a shared vision for your life together. You’ll identify common values and set goals for what you’d like to achieve as a couple.

Week 4: Create a Spending Plan

Now that you know what you want as a couple, you’ll work on creating a specific spending and saving plan that aligns with your values and goals.

Week 5: Manage Your Money Together

In Session 5, we’ll talk about the logistics of managing money together, how to have money meetings, and specific rules and guidelines to help you make decisions. For example, you’ll decide how much each person will contribute, how much each person can spend without talking to the other, and what happens if one of you no longer has an income.

Week 6: Specific Money Topics

The final session will be used to address major questions that arose in previous sessions and/or other specific money topics such as debt, budgeting, and saving money.
